Jelsa has been voted the most idyllic place in Rogaland by NRK listeners and is also one of the best-preserved coastal villages in Ryfylke. The village comes to life in the summer with many tourists and visitors. In Jelsa, you can visit the unique Jelsa Church with its hand-painted starry ceiling, the school museum, and you can swim from the beach. There is a local grocery store and a petrol pump in the area. There are several beautiful cycling and hiking trails in the vicinity.

Jelsa Church was completed in 1647, but its history stretches all the way back to the Viking Age, when Jelsa served as a gathering point for religious offerings.
